SPECIALTY ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS
Our programs in Healthy Lifestyles develop our members' capacity to engage in positive behaviors that nurture their own well-being, set personal goals, and live successfully as self-sufficient adults.

Triple Play is BGCA’s comprehensive health and wellness program and it was developed in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Triple Play is implemented all around the country in Clubs like ours and strives to improve the overall health of Club members by increasing their daily physical activity, teaching them good nutrition, and helping them develop healthy relationships with a focus on nourishing the mind, body, and soul.

Triple Play's Mind component encourages young people to eat smart through the Healthy Habits program, which covers the power of choice, calories, vitamins and minerals, the food pyramid, and appropriate portion size. The Body component boosts Clubs’ traditional physical activities to a higher level by providing sports and fitness activities for all youth. Body programs include six Daily Fitness Challenges; teen Sports Clubs focused on leadership development, service and careers in athletics; and Triple Play Games Tournaments, inter-Club sectional tournaments that involve multiple team sports. The Soul component helps build positive relationships and cooperation among young people.

Our SMART Moves (Skills Mastery and Resistance Training) program helps our young people learn the confidence and conflict resolution skills they need to resist peer pressure related to alcohol, tobacco, and drug use, and premature sexual activity.

Our Healthy Habits curriculum goes hand-in-hand with our Sports & Recreation programming, and is designed to incorporate healthy living in every part of our members' lives. The program emphasizes good nutrition, regular physical activity, and improving one’s overall well-being.

Kids Cafe Healthy Meals Program

The types of community disadvantage that Brockton and Taunton face can have a profound negative impact on our children in the areas of health, learning, and safety. Compounding this are low-income, urban settings where fast food is cheap and readily available, with few grocery stores and restaurants offering healthy foods.

50% of our members live in a single-parent home and 60% are part of households which earn $40,000 or less per year. Many Brockton and Taunton families struggle to put food on the table, gain steady employment, or afford key essentials. As such, our Kids Cafe Healthy Meals Program is one of the most essential components of these services provided to Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro South families.

We provide nutritious meals to our youth each evening during the academic year, and both breakfast and lunch during the summer months to ensure that no member who wishes to eat at our Clubs leaves hungry. Each day we serve meals to nearly 400 of our members; totaling more than 7,500 meals served per month and more than 100,000 meals served annually. In addition to meal service, we work to teach our members how to choose healthy foods when they are not at their Club and to make the connection between eating well and feeling well and healthy. We also aim to eliminate the anxiety that comes with never knowing where one’s next meal will come from. By removing this constant worry from the minds of our members, we can help them better apply their efforts in school, and give them the freedom to just be kids.

Small Group Mentoring

As part of Small Group Mentoring programs aim to engage our youth in positive behavior and build their Character & Leadership skills and empower them to become responsible, productive, and caring young adults.

Specialty Enrichment Programs

Specialty Enrichment Programs are elective programs in which members can enroll in order to delve deeper into their interest areas. Examples of our Specialty Enrichment Programs in Healthy Lifestyles include Young Chefs.
